Quartz Pocket Watch

How do they work?

A quartz pocket watch is relatively new in the world of silver pocket watches. It was first introduced to the masses during the 1970′s across the United States and upon its release it cost close to $500, quite a hefty price tag for something as simple as a watch. A lot has changed in the past 40 years though both in style and affordability. Now the prices are so low that anyone can afford them and in some cases they are given away for free in places like prizes in cereal boxes or as toys in a fast food meal.

However, many people were curious as to how the quartz pocket watch was accurate to be able to tell time like the older style watches which were so reliable and common. The crystals that are used inside the watches we know and love today are made out of a thin layer or sheet of quartz. The frequencies that operate inside the watch allows the accuracy to be maintained and therefore keeps the timing accurate.

The crystals inside a quartz pocket watch are able to be increased or amplified which allows the timing to be kept as oscillation is built up. Digital watches use a conversion method that allows the time to change while the watches that people use with traditional hands have pulses instead of digital circuits that are able to give small amounts of power to a motor which uses gears in order to turn the hands to keep the time as accurate as it truly is.
