Westclox Pocket Watch
An OverviewThe Westclox pocket watch is a true work of art and their models have been around since 1899 which is when the company called Western Clock Manufacturing made their very first pocket watch. The very first versions included Pocket Ben, Boyproof and the American. Later on a new, luminous version of Pocket Ben was released and it was then logically named Pocket Ben Lumious.
The company based their silver pocket watches on three different movements. The first one was rather minimalistic and was later on illustrated by George Townsend in 1974. Their second pocket watch movement includes a barrel bridge and the third movement was charectirized by what appears to be a model number (P25713) which was engraved in silver pocket watches such as the American which had a simplistic but stylish design at the time.
Interestingly enough, the Western Clock manufacturing company also released handbag pocket watches which had a rather unique look to them. They were bigger than their silver pocket watches (The American, the Pocket Ben, etc) and were presented in black, red blue and white case models. Their production dates ran between 1933 and 1935 and retailed at the amazing price of $2.95. Some pocket watches produced by this company were also designed to be worn around the neck.
Today we can find some Westclox pocket watch models available for sale but they are treated as antiques and so their price is considerably higher than the rest of the pocket watches we see on sale. Other famous models of pocket watches produced by this company include the Country Club produced in 1930, the Dax model which was on sale in 1932, the intersting Bull’s Eye Luminous which was yet another pocket watch in their Luminous category and the Black Chief produced in 1938.
